Dmitri Mendeleev was born February 8, 1834, in Russia. He was a chemist as well as an inventor. He was known fo his creation of the first periodic table, in this creation Mendeleev hypothesized properties of elements yet to be found. Mendeleev was very popular in the scientific field and recieved alot of recognition in Europe. In 1905m Mendeleev was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Science. Soon after the Nobel Prize committee suggested to the Royal Academy to present Mendeleev the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the periodic table. But at the Royal Academy, meeting a nobel memeber and another non-memeber of an organization voted to reject the prize from Mendeleev. These two personnel had great influence on the academy. Unfortunately Mendeleev never receive the Nobel Prize. On February 2, 1907 Mendeleev died from influenza.

Historical Background

the periodic table shows the elements

  • He made great contributions to the atom by creating the first periodic table of elements.
  • He concluded that there are still more elements to be discovered that are to be added to the periodic table.
  • In mostly every science you learn something about the periodic table, these teachings are credited to Dmitri Mendeleev.
