Solar powered calculators and solar power cells work on the photoelectric effect. When light strikes certain materials, the electrons absorb enough energy to escape the atoms. These electrons travel through the conducting materials and set up an electric current.
Photoelectric cells therefore convert light into electrical energy

- electron caused by light: the emission of electrons from a substance exposed to electromagnetic radiation
Historical Background

Albert Einstein was born in Germany on March 14, 1879, he was very interested in science as a child and the mysteries of science. This curiousity flooed him in to adult-hood. In 1905, while working as a patent clerk, Einstein was involved in the "miracle year" this was the time that the young physicist earned a Doctorate degree and published the Special Theory of Relativity. Einstein made the equation that could unlock mysteries of the universe that is unknown the famous equation "e = mc2" . He settled in the U.S., becoming a citizen in 1940. During World War II, he helped a President Roselvelt that Germany might be developing an atomic weapon, and suggested that the U.S. begin similar research, this led to what would become the Manhattan Projest. Einstein was in support of defending the Allied forces, but largely denounced using the new discovery ofnuclear fission as a weapon. Unfortunaely Einstein died on April 17, 1955, he died by cause of internal bleeding which was caused by the rupture of an abdominal aortic anuerysm.

- He developed the general theory of relativity.
-
He is usually named the Father of Physics because of all his contributions to modern physics in the 20th century.
- He discovered his theory while trying to redefine Maxwell's electromagnetic theory with the conservation of energy and momentum.
Experimental Design/data collection
